Shigai Royalty Review: Legit or Just KDP Hype?

Shigai Royalty is a cloud-based puzzle book creation tool designed specifically for creating Murdoku-style mystery logic books.

Think of it as part murder mystery and part logic grid puzzle.

You create a cast of suspects and rooms, and the reader works through a set of clues to determine where everybody was and ultimately identify the killer.

What makes the concept particularly interesting is that the software handles the complicated logic behind the scenes.

Instead of manually constructing clue chains and then hoping you haven’t accidentally created two possible answers, the engine builds and verifies each puzzle so there is a single solution.

You can create puzzles ranging from relatively simple 6×6 grids right up to 16×16, with five difficulty levels.

There’s also a Heist option if you would rather create a family-friendly “find the thief” type of puzzle instead of murder mysteries.

And importantly for publishers, it isn’t limited to creating individual puzzle images. You get book-building tools, page formatting, bulk generation and export options designed around KDP and printable products.

Shigai Royalty comes from the Royalty Prints team, with Ike Paz and Luke Bowes behind the project.

I’ve been connected with this vendor team for years, and one thing I appreciate about their products is that they tend to focus on very specific publishing opportunities rather than throwing another generic AI tool into an already crowded market.

Luke is the software developer behind the technology, while Ike comes at things more from the publishing and digital-product side. That combination makes sense here because Shigai Royalty isn’t simply a puzzle generator. It has clearly been built around actually turning those puzzles into usable books and printable products.

Of course, a clever tool doesn’t automatically mean successful books. Keywords, covers, positioning and getting your books seen still matter, and I’ll come back to that later.

Verified Single-Solution Puzzle Engine

This is probably the biggest feature for me.

Creating logic mysteries manually can become surprisingly complicated because every clue needs to work together properly. One mistake can leave the reader with multiple possible solutions or no logical solution at all.

Shigai Royalty generates the case and mathematically verifies it.

That gives me much more confidence than simply asking an AI chatbot to invent a complicated logic puzzle and assuming everything adds up.

Five Difficulty Levels

You aren’t locked into one type of reader.

There are five difficulty levels, running from easy puzzles through to the much more demanding Dragon level.

You can use grids from 6×6 all the way up to 16×16, which also opens the door to creating different books for beginners, intermediate solvers and serious puzzle fans.

I particularly like the series potential here.

Rather than publishing random one-off books, you could build a progression where the difficulty increases from one volume to the next.

Custom Characters and Rooms

You can change your cast, character names and room names rather than publishing the exact same generic mystery repeatedly.

You can also upload your own character photos.

That gives you plenty of room for themed books such as haunted hotels, cruise ships, offices, Christmas mysteries or personalised family editions.

The customisation is important because simply mass-producing nearly identical books isn’t much of a publishing strategy.

Murder Mystery and Heist Modes

The classic mode revolves around finding the killer, but the front end also includes a Heist mode, where readers identify the thief instead.

That’s a nice addition because it gives you a less dark, more family-friendly direction without changing the underlying puzzle concept.

Hints and Walkthrough Solutions

The software can create a hints ladder as well as step-by-step solution walkthroughs.

I really like this feature.

With harder logic books, giving somebody nothing except the final answer can be frustrating. A proper walkthrough lets readers understand where they went wrong and makes the book feel much more professionally put together.

How-To-Solve Tutorial

You can also add a worked example showing readers how the puzzle system works before they tackle the real cases.

For a relatively unfamiliar puzzle format, I think that’s important.

You don’t want someone buying the book and spending ten minutes trying to understand what they’re supposed to do.

Built-In Page Designer

Shigai Royalty isn’t simply producing raw puzzle data that you then have to rebuild inside Canva.

The page designer includes fonts, margins, trim sizes, difficulty badges, legends and positioning controls.

You can then use bulk generation to build multiple puzzles into a complete book rather than designing every page individually.

For KDP publishers, that’s probably one of the biggest time savers in the whole package.

PDF and PNG Export

The front end includes unlimited PNG exports and up to 100 PDF exports per month.

So the same underlying content can potentially be used for paperback interiors as well as downloadable puzzle packs and printables.

PRO removes that PDF limitation and also introduces PPTX export.

Commercial Rights

The books and puzzle products you create come with commercial rights.

That means you’re not restricted to creating these puzzles for personal use.

You can publish and sell what you create, which is obviously essential for anyone looking at Shigai Royalty as a KDP or printable business tool.

The workflow is actually quite straightforward.

First, you choose the difficulty and grid size and set up your cast and rooms.

You can use the included characters or customise things with your own names, themes and images.

Then Shigai Royalty generates the mystery, clue structure, hints and solution and verifies that the puzzle has one valid solution.

From there, you move into the page designer.

This is where you can organise the puzzle pages, fonts, margins, legends and other book elements rather than having to reconstruct everything inside a separate design program.

Bulk generation then lets you produce enough puzzles for a larger book.

Finally, you export the finished pages or book and take them over to the marketplace you’re publishing on.

For Amazon KDP, you’ll still need to create your listing, cover, keywords, description and upload everything through KDP itself.

So I wouldn’t describe Shigai Royalty as a magical “click once and Amazon royalties appear” system.

It solves the difficult product creation side extremely well. Marketing and positioning are still your job.

I see Shigai Royalty being particularly useful for Amazon KDP publishers who want something different from the usual word searches, sudoku and colouring books.

It’s also suited to people who like the puzzle-book market but don’t actually know how to design sophisticated logic puzzles themselves.

Printable sellers could make good use of it too, particularly for downloadable mystery packs, party games, classroom activities and themed puzzle bundles.

And because you can personalise characters and settings, there’s some interesting potential for customised gift products.

If you’re just starting out, you don’t need programming or puzzle-design experience.

However, you should still be willing to learn the publishing side of the business. Generating the interior is only one part of selling books successfully.

What stands out to me most is how specialised Shigai Royalty is.

There are thousands of general AI content tools around now. This isn’t trying to generate everything from children’s stories to colouring pages to social posts.

It does one unusual type of puzzle and builds the workflow around it.

That focus is actually a strength.

Pros

✓ The puzzles are verified

For me, this is the biggest advantage. Logic books need to work logically. Having the engine verify the solution removes one of the biggest risks of trying to create these puzzles manually or purely with AI.

✓ Strong customisation

Characters, photos, rooms, themes, difficulty and grid sizes give you far more flexibility than simply exporting the same templates everybody else gets.

✓ Proper book creation features

Bulk generation, page design, tutorials, hints and walkthrough solutions make it much closer to a publishing system than a basic puzzle generator.

✓ Multiple product possibilities

You can use the output for KDP books, printable puzzle packs, personalised gifts and potentially themed series.

✓ Very accessible front-end price

At $19, I think the core version gives you enough functionality to actually create and test this type of product before deciding whether the larger upgrades make sense.

Cons

✗ Creating the book doesn’t create the traffic

Shigai Royalty can dramatically reduce the work involved in making the product, but you still need an attractive cover, sensible keywords and a strategy for getting visibility on Amazon or whichever marketplace you use.

✗ Some of the most interesting variations are upgrades

The core system is capable, but features such as Lying Killer, kid modes, Grand Mystery, seasonal scenarios and the Story Book Wizard sit inside PRO or ELITE.

✗ I wouldn’t bank on the niche staying quiet forever

An unusual puzzle concept can give publishers a fresh angle, but I never buy software because somebody says a niche has “almost no competition.” If a format catches on, competition naturally follows.

For me, the better reason to get Shigai Royalty is the ability to create differentiated books efficiently and build your own themes, series and branding around them.

It adds Lying Killer and One Wasn’t There puzzle variants, plus a choose-the-culprit option that’s particularly interesting for personalised gift books.

You also get all nine kid and family modes, a Kawaii artwork pack, premium page styling, self-check ciphers, certificates, custom fonts and the Floor Studio with custom furniture uploads.

PDF exports become unlimited and PPTX export is added.

I see PRO making the most sense for anyone who already knows they’ll want broader audiences and more visual control rather than only producing the classic puzzle format.

Upgrade 2 – Shigai Royalty ELITE – $187

ELITE is the serious expansion.

It adds five premium puzzle variants, including Grand Mystery and Accomplices, together with more advanced IF-THEN clues and coded cipher clues.

You also get 11 seasonal modes, a custom scenario builder, all 14 artwork packs and the Elite Textured design style.

For publishers, some of the most useful additions are the Edition Variants, allowing you to create Large Print, Pocket and black-and-white versions.

There’s also a World Builder, a one-click Story Book Wizard, KDP pre-flight tools, front-matter features, SVG export and Spanish support currently listed as beta.

It’s a substantial upgrade, but at $187 I would only move into ELITE if I planned to build a proper catalogue around this style of product.

Upgrade 3 – Genten Royalty – $47

This one is actually a separate concept rather than simply more Shigai features.

Genten Royalty is a Math Mystery Studio where the mystery is solved through maths problems.

It covers grades 1–6 with around 50 maths-skill generators, 163 themes including 95 kid-safe worlds, five case generators and nine book languages.

That makes it much more relevant to educational publishers, teachers and people creating maths activity books for parents and children.

I wouldn’t consider it essential for somebody who only wants to make the original Shigai mystery books.

What exactly does Shigai Royalty create?

It creates Murdoku-style deduction puzzles where readers use logical clues to work out the positions of suspects and determine the culprit.

The software can also produce the hints, solution walkthroughs and book pages needed to turn individual puzzles into larger products.

Do I need to know how to write mysteries?

No.

You’re not sitting down and manually plotting suspects, alibis and clue chains. The engine creates the underlying logic for you.

You’ll get better results, though, if you put some thought into your themes, titles, characters and overall book positioning.

Are the puzzles checked?

Yes. One of the main features of the software is its verification engine, which checks the generated puzzle for a single valid solution.

That’s an important distinction from simply asking general AI to invent a logic puzzle.

Is Shigai Royalty cloud based?

Yes. It runs online, so there’s no software installation required.

Can I use the books commercially?

Yes. Commercial rights are included for what you create with the software.

Can I publish on Amazon KDP?

Yes. KDP publishing is one of the main use cases, and the software includes page-design and export features aimed at book publishers.

ELITE makes more sense for someone building a larger publishing operation and wanting the advanced variants, seasonal modes, artwork packs, edition tools and Story Book Wizard.

What is Genten Royalty?

Genten Royalty is a separate maths-focused mystery creation system.

Instead of solving the case purely through deduction clues, children work through maths problems to solve the mystery.

Does Shigai Royalty guarantee I’ll make money?

No software can realistically guarantee that.

The tool can help you create the product much faster, but sales still depend on things such as demand, book quality, cover design, keywords, pricing, competition and promotion.

Is there a money-back guarantee?

A money-back guarantee is referenced in the product’s FAQ, but the material I’ve been given doesn’t state the exact guarantee period. I would check the current checkout terms before purchasing rather than assuming a particular number of days.

After going through Shigai Royalty, I think the strongest thing about it is actually quite simple:

It solves a difficult creation problem.

Making proper deduction puzzles manually isn’t easy. The clues have to agree with one another, there needs to be one correct solution, and then you still have to turn everything into attractive book pages.

Shigai Royalty brings those pieces into one workflow.

I also like the fact that the $19 front end isn’t just a tiny demo designed to force you immediately into an upgrade. You can create the core murder mystery and heist books, customise them, bulk generate pages and export finished products from the main version.

Would I buy every upgrade immediately?

Probably not.

I’d start with the front end, create some genuinely good books, research my angles carefully and see how the market responds.

PRO becomes more appealing if you want family and children’s products or more puzzle variety. ELITE is the bigger commitment and makes more sense if you intend to build multiple series, editions and themed catalogues.

My only real caution is not to confuse easy product creation with easy sales.

Amazon exposure doesn’t magically arrive because you’ve made a clever puzzle book. You’re still running a publishing business, and covers, keywords, positioning and promotion matter.

But looking purely at what Shigai Royalty is designed to do, I think it’s a clever, specialised tool and one of the more interesting puzzle publishing systems I’ve looked at.

For $19, I particularly like it as a relatively inexpensive way to test a much more distinctive puzzle format without having to learn how to construct the underlying logic yourself.
